I wrote this song for my dear partner and wife, Jolaina. In it, I attempt to capture my appreciation and trust for her, the way she accepts me as I am and allows me to honestly be myself without hiding. She is a remarkable communicator, a talented artist, a wonderfully sensitive human, and a bright light in this world- for all, and for me. Not to mention! she has the most MESMERIZING green eyes. Can't help but fall into 'em.
This feels like the most vulnerable and personal song I've ever written, and it's a tricky thing, trying to capture an aspect or a moment of your ever-evolving relationship and share it with the world. But I just had to try! It's a relationship unlike any other I've ever experienced. I guess that's why I married her! She teaches me a lot, and I'm really just trying to help you see that she passes the vibe check with flying colors. Happy birthday, Jojo, I love you. May the light that you shine be reflected even stronger back to you.
lyrics
All I want to know
Is that you’re looking out for me
A pair of eyes
That sees what I fail to see
A garden hose
That won’t ever freeze on me
A traffic light
Reminding me when to stop and breathe
1, 2, 3
So here I go
Against all instinct
My guard’s down low
But darling, I want to be seen
So come in close
With your eyes of green
When I feel terrified
You say it’s alright to be
I leave my heart out on the table
This house of cards is growing stable now
I make the news, watch it on cable
The boy who lived life in a fable
Is no longer asleep
Asleep
Awake in the dream
Looking at eyes of green
